Throughout my semester in Lyon, one of my favorite things to do was finding new coffee shops. I made it a weekly goal to find at least one per week. Discovering new coffee shops not only allowed me to experience the café culture in France, but it also helped me step out of my shell to try new places and new things. In the US, I usually spent time studying at the public library. Our university bibliothèque was always packed, with strict rules on foods and drinks, and worst of all, the wifi never worked. Coffee shops were my immediate go-to when I needed to get something done, wanted to get my mind off of certain things, and a great place to socialize with un chaï latte or my personal favorite, un café noisette.

Le Labo
39 rue de Marseille, 69007, Lyon, France Le Labo was the first coffee shop I discovered in Lyon. The menu was set up like the Periodic table of Elements, but with coffee! Only a couple blocks from my university, little did I know that this was where my coffee addiction begun.

Galerie Slika
37 rue des Remparts d'Ainay, 69002 Lyon, France Slika is a mix between a modern art museum and a coffee shop. The walls, decor, and art pieces were different each visit. This café is just across the bridge from our Université.

Jeannine et Suzanne
34 rue Sainte-Hélène, 69002, Lyon France Jeannine et Suzanne has an Alice in Wonderland type of theme going on-- I like it a lot, in fact. They have a nice study/work area in the back. However the wifi doesn't reach back there, nor is there any service. I only came here if I just wanted to enjoy a cup of coffee with some friends.

Once Upon A Coffee
101 rue Béchevelin, 69007, Lyon, France Once Upon A Coffee was also only a block away from our université. Compared to the other cafés, this one was rather small (but cozy). We went here so often, that the barista remembered us and some of our usual orders too! She was very sweet, and always spoke to us in French to help us practice our French speaking and listening skills.

Patchwork Café
146 cours Gambetta, 69007, Lyon France Patchwork is located in the 7ème, just by Garibaldi. It took me less than five minutes to walk here from my host family's apartment. It stayed open until 11pm most nights and offered caffeinated (and) alcoholic beverages at night.

Lumen Coffee
44 rue Franklin, 69002, Lyon, France Lumen is a brunch and café shop with two floors and a back room if you need more space to focus. I remember writing my research paper for my Marseille Field Study class in this café. Coffee usually takes the temptations of procrastination away.
