I've been bumming soap off of my friends during our past mini trips outside of Lyon, but I figured for our 10 day break, I should bring my own. Here in France, there's a brand called Hema and if I could compare it to anything in the US, it'd be Target. Those who know me know that I have a slight obsession with Target. Although Hema could never match to Target, ça marche. You're probably wondering why I got Japanese decorative tape. I have a passion for journaling/crafting, and washi tape makes everything look better without much work. I'll have to show you my agenda sometime. For example, instead of just directly writing onto the clear travel-sized bottles, I decked them out, and had a blast. My friends would call me "extra" for doing this, but honestly, it's a hobby. It's just a quick and easy way to spice up your travel soap (because that's totally necessary, right?). Anyway, my friends and I thought about bringing a small suitcase, but then thought about how much of a hassle it'd be to lug it around everywhere (without access to an Airbnb or hostel), and how much more obvious we'd look as American tourists. I used my packing cubes to pack 11 outfits, hygienic necessities, and my travel pillow into my backpack and a bag/purse.
Packing light had always been a challenge for me, but all of this traveling has taught me that the more you bring, the more you have to carry. Plus, there's no space for new things that you collect to bring back home.
